CrossFit athletes know no two days are alike. The sport asks a lot of you — and your shoes. Our lead tester Paul Mandell is an experienced CrossFit coach who puts each shoe through its paces as he demonstrates exercises and techniques to classes and clients on a daily basis. He evaluates each model to highlight its specific strengths and shortcomings and makes his recommendations based on the versatile needs of folks who are exclusively doing CrossFit, as well as those who are practicing stricter lifts and conditioning. After much sweat, some blood, and maybe a few tears, we are proud to present our list of the best CrossFit shoes for Our reviewers are pretty big fans of Inov-8 shoes. Initially, we thought the plastic cage around the midfoot might pose some comfort issues, but like Inov-8 claims, it just helps keep our feet in the right spot in the shoe while we are working out. The G slips onto your foot easily, and although the laces are a bit on the short side, finding the right fit is super easy. The graphene sole provides excellent traction and at g, the G feels light on the foot. The 6mm drop gives you just enough heel rise, while the ETPU sole provides plenty of cushion without collapsing under load. That cage we mentioned earlier keeps your foot from sliding laterally, and the wide toe box allows for toe-splay as you move. The G is super comfortable and it excels in just about every situation you can think of.

In the years before gossip magazines gave way to Instagram, head-turning sneakers became ingrained in contemporary American celebrity. The brand was Supra, the sneaker was the Skytop, and it was impossible to miss during the late s and early s. The Supra Skytop is a glossy high-top skate shoe that could easily pass for an expensive designer sneaker—at least at first glance. But when it hit the scene, the Skytop was an inescapable part of celebrity fashion during an era when celeb content still came strictly from style blogs and gossip websites. It showed up at red carpet premieres and outside of nightclubs, worn by chart-topping musicians like Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne and movie stars like Bradley Cooper. For its time, the Skytop was as wild as sneakers got, groundbreaking in its combination of skate-ready durability, extravagant silhouette, and seriously out-there colorways. It was a cool ugly sneaker before ugly sneakers were cool. And then, as the celebrity fashion zeitgeist moved on to the next trend, the shoe slowly vanished from the Hollywood spotlight and went back to the skateparks and high school hallways from which it came. The Skytop was designed by Chad Muska , a charismatic pro skater on the Supra team, alongside Josh Brubaker, the first footwear designer hired at the company. Supra, which was founded in , is widely credited for blowing up the skate-lifestyle category that would eventually result in every suburban mall having a PacSun and Zumiez—and now, every fashion kid owning a pair of Dickies.
