Swab your gob
Most places ask you to fill out a quick form, then they mail you a cheek swab kit. Every local registry is connected to an international database.
There are three ways to get involved with GobForGood. Doing any one of them could save a life. We think that donating stem cells should be as normal as giving blood. But that means getting more people on the stem cell register. So the most important thing you can do is order a kit below and take three minutes to swab your gob and pop it back in the post.
Swab your gob
Swab your gob and be a superhero! There is a ten-year-old girl in hospital who is seriously ill with aplastic anaemia. She desperately needs a stem cell transplant to save her life, but as yet no one on the register is a match for her. The Swabyourgob campaign was set up by a group of her parents' friends to try to recruit 10, people to join the register in a month, to give her the best chance of finding a match. Please 'swab your gob' and join the register; you could be a superhero for our friend, or one of the hundreds of people each year who rely on a total stranger to do something amazing and save their life. Donating is a straightforward process, as previous donor Poonam right can testify. For most people, it involves a few hours sitting in a comfortable chair, having blood withdrawn from your arm, with your expenses and travel paid by DKMS. Our mission is to provide a matching donor for every patient with blood cancer or a blood disorder who needs a transplant. All it takes is one person to match each patient: that person might be you. Ethnicity — India Why does it matter?
We as a community must do more to help each other, and we all know that cancer affects 1 in 2 of us, what are we waiting for? No more excuses, we must do much better! Share a swab selfie and tag your three gobbiest mates to do the same, using the hashtag GobForGood. If you find a few quid down the back of your sofa, consider sending it to one of our cancer-fighting partners. Blood cancer survival statistics are much lower for those in ethnic minority groups.
Mostly cancer gene changes happen during your lifetime. A stem cell donation is comparable to a blood donation, and does not lead to a permanent loss of stem cells. The body reproduces the blood stem cells within about two weeks. Four weeks after donation, your blood levels are checked. This is to make sure that the relevant blood values have returned to normal. The protection and security of your data is of paramount importance to us here at DKMS. We will only record, process and use your personal data in accordance with your consent.

But we can change this. This is a game of numbers: the more people who join the stem cell register of all ethnicities, the better the odds of finding life-saving matches. This is what the GobForGood campaign is all about. Getting you and your friends, family, social followers and colleagues swabbing and sharing the campaign using the GobForGood hashtag. But it could be the difference between someone living and someone dying.
