The owners of Main Stage bar, a popular cabaret bar in Cardiff's St Mary Street, first announced they planned to open a second venue in Swansea at Swansea Pride last year; but plans unfortunately fell through. For several months after Swansea Pride, business partners Martin Jones and Marc Scofield viewed countless potential venues in Swansea city centre but couldn't find any that matched what they were looking for - until now. The pair have now signed the lease for an empty unit in Castle Street, just up from night-out haven Wind Street, and have started transforming a former Chinese coffee shop into a glitzy and glamorous bar. The unit is currently something of a blank slate, after Martin and Marc gutted the venue and removed its old coffee machine and furnishings. But in the coming weeks, the unit will be transformed into an inviting drag and cabaret bar with a fully-stocked bar, dance floor, seating area and capacity for up to people. Announcing their plans for Main Stage Swansea during Swansea Pride , Martin explained: "We've had Main Stage Cardiff for three years now, it's been so successful and we really wanted to expand. Main Stage Swansea will be a gay bar with cabaret performances - and there's a real need for it here. We've had a lot of customers come and see us in Cardiff, from Swansea, so felt opening a bar in Swansea would be the right place! There will also be 'camp bingo' and we plan to work with Swansea Pride to host monthly fundraising evenings too. It'll be somewhere people can go and just be themselves.
