Owner Patti Taggart says there was too much competition in Kanata from large box stores. The past few years has seen an increase in tag along toys of online shopping. Taggart posted on social media Thursday and says she had received an outpouring of support from other local businesses and loyal customers.

Patti is the owner of a fabulous little toy store in the west end of Ottawa called Tag Along Toys. She does it by building relationships. Patti is an Early Childhood Educator ECE , so her product choices reflect a commitment to help children develop a range of skills and interests through play. I am a Registered Early Childhood Educator. I had worked in the field for over 10 years at the time and thought maybe I could expand my use of ECE.

We interviewed owner Patti Taggart to learn a little more about her story. How long have you been in the toy business? We opened the original store in , 20 years ago. Why did you decide to work in the toy industry? My family runs businesses, so running a business was in my blood and I wanted to do something that was still related to children. What was the most challenging part about starting the business? When I first opened, the biggest challenge was making sure I had good cash flow. Staffing is also hard but cash flow is so important because you never know what will happen tomorrow — look at this pandemic! Are you still dealing with these challenges? How have you seen the retail space change over time? I have seen a huge change in the retail space. Every day there are a minimum of five to six sales online.
