The storehouse restaurant with rooms
Opened early July this restored B Listed store, originally built as a pork and herring curing station situated in the historic heart of Kirkwall, has been transformed into a large ground floor restaurant with eight luxury individually designed rooms with en-suites on the top two floors. The rooms are all accessible by lift and have their own private outside access. If wished two rooms can be booked together as a suite. Each room has been designed by Judith Glue and has its own special story to tell reflecting the colours and textures of Orkney with local art and design. Many of the materials used have been recycled from the original building, and there are unique details throughout: the gable end windows have wooden shutters with stone sills, and many of the bedrooms still have their original wooden posts, which were recycled from tall mast sailing ships when the Store was built in No detail has been overlooked and each room has luxurious super king size beds with Egyptian cotton bedding, oak floors, underfloor heating in the en-suites, heated mist free mirrors, spacious showers, fluffy bath towels with robes, complementary toiletries, fresh milk and local shortbread. Our superior rooms feature baths as well as showers and have an option of an extra bed suitable for a child under twelve. Our restaurant concentrates on the best of Orkney produce and Gayle Grieve, born in Orkney, devises seasonal menus with a changing Specials menu. Evening meals are served every evening from June till September 5. Outside the main season our restaurant opens from Thursday - Saturday. View Gallery. Visit Website Book Now.
