Costa Azzurra feels like a very middle of the road fresh fragrance. The best fragrances by Tom Ford are evocative and transportive. They do what great fragrance should — they make you feel and experience. The original Tom Ford Costa Azzurra was released as a Private Blend fragrance in ; and had a price tag of double what it is today. With discontinuing a fragrance and then relaunching it for a fraction of the price, it makes me question the quality and value of the original offering. This is a mass-market Tom Ford fragrance.

I could smell the cyprus immediately; it gives the whole scent a relaxed, breezy feel. The addition of oakwood is very prevalent from start to finish. I can picture wild driftwood washed up on a beach. As someone who normally avoids citrus-fougere fragrances, amber makes me lean towards Costa Azzurra Parfum more. I like the sea-salty skin aroma and warmth it creates.

The bottle looks completely different, and the scent has changed slightly. What is a Fougere Fragrance? My first impressions? As hard as it is to describe, the freshness of this scent is almost three-dimensional. It has a mild menthol-breeziness that you can smell you feel. When I close my eyes, I can picture a sun-soaked beach, dotted with washed-up driftwood and surrounding swaying leafy trees — very clever, Mr Ford. Costa Azzurra evokes the sensual ease of a Mediterranean escape, merging sea air freshness with the warmth of the sun on the body.
