Last month, I replaced my well-travelled 35L Outbreaker with the new 40L V4, and am traveling with the new item now. The 35L remains like new after a couple years of backpacking and travel in planes, cars, trains, busses, boats, etc. The new version is just as comfortable, well-organized, secure, and easy to clean as before, with some clear improvements. One nice addition is a small outside top pocket, which is great for easy access to oft-used items like sunglasses, earplugs, comb, and headphones. Some unnecessary things have been removed, such as a couple pen and card slots, pockets and dividers in the main compartment, and a redundant outside handle. By staying on my back, it stays much cleaner than ground-level wheeled luggage that drags and bounces over floors, muddy sidewalks, and worse. I've tried and tested all of Tortuga's gear, and this bag is possibly their best one yet. Amazing materials and brilliant organization make it worth the price, but I cannot emphasize just how comfortable it is. Once the bag is fully secured it feels like it becomes a part of you I do wish the laptop compartment would open clam-shall style like the discontinued Outbreaker did , but aside from that I can't complain about anything really. It's a world-class bag from a world-class company! Great work Tortuga! I've spent 5 years traveling with different iterations of the Tortuga travel backpack and I literally won't travel with anyone else. I travel for a living and have to be able to pack enough to live across multiple climates, and I have no problem fitting everything I need into my Tortuga.
There is a lot of internal organization and some great sized quick access pockets The clamshell style main compartment will make packing easier Lots of padding on the shoulder straps and back panel The lining in the laptop compartment and tablet sleeve is super soft The hip belt tortuga outbreaker way too big The separate laptop compartment makes accessing your laptop easy, tortuga outbreaker.

Which is exactly why I wrote this next-level Tortuga Outbreaker review. In this brutally honest guide, I break down everything you need to know about the Tortuga Outbreaker.
Both sizes of the Outbreaker Backpack are designed to fit nearly everyone. The height-adjustable suspension system adjusts to you. Move the shoulder straps up or down to find the best fit for your body. Adjust the hip belt for a snug fit to take the weight off of your shoulders. With a comfortable fit, you can then choose the right size backpack based on your travels and packing style, not your body. Budget and European Airline Flyers If you frequently fly on European or budget airlines, consider the Outbreaker 35L which meets stricter international carry on limits.

Max-sized carry on for international trips. Best for: More comfort, organization, and weather-resistance. Mid-sized carry on for weekend trips. Suitcases aren't made for city travel. Try dragging a suitcase with cheap plastic wheels over cobblestone streets and up a few flights of stairs to your Airbnb. Suitcases are the opposite of hands-free travel.

That wraps up our review on this pack. Inside the main compartment are six smaller compartments. Weight Extremely Durable but Heavy at 4. The organization and packing style of the Tortuga Outbreaker, is based around 3 main compartments: The smaller front facing organizational compartment; a Big clamshell style main compartment to hold the majority of your clothes; and a laptop compartment that folds flat, with further organizational pockets. Like hiking packs, travel backpacks are comfortable and durable. Your email address Subscribe. Beneath the foam is a solid panel that helps support the weight of the pack comfortably. Pack smarter, not harder! I want to get the 45l — but — is this backpack going to be to big for me? It looks great and is spacious, durable, comfortable, and has plenty of organisation including excellent protection for your laptop and tablet. Over on the other side of this pocket, there are three similar-sized mesh zippered pockets. The trick to getting the most out…. Nothing is perfect, and there are always ways to improve products. One nice addition is a small outside top pocket, which is great for easy access to oft-used items like sunglasses, earplugs, comb, and headphones.

The front, main, and laptop compartment all have lockable zippers too, giving you that peace of mind and added security should you need it. The mesh also helps with visibility too. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Once the bag is fully secured it feels like it becomes a part of you Personally I want not want a Tortuga pack for long distance trekking. That's just pocket physics, nothing to do with Tortuga. Only color choice is black. Cons Hip belt is too long The harness system and laptop compartment take up a lot of space and weight The water bottle pockets are compromised if the pack is at full capacity. Quality Rated 5. As a company, Tortuga represents everything good in the world. Hiking backpacks are also tough.
