Amsterdam is a beautiful city. It is very charming. I was however disappointed by the city by and large due to other tourist. I didn't anticipate Amsterdam to be full of college age European rich kids. As an average American couple it seemed that my husband and I stuck out in the crowd. Europeans in general are dressier than Americans , but in the evenings some dressed as they were on a Paris runaway while walking through the Red Light District. Just be prepared if you are going , that it's not the 'hippy' crowd that you may expect due to the relaxed views on marijuana use and prostitution. To avoid the young preppy crowd, visit in the mornings before they are awake. Amsterdam is fine for people on stag dos and hen dos but probably not for a romantic getaway! We spent 5 days in and around amsterdam and we loved it but only to an extent.

After shopping and indulging in a farmers pancake which my husband thought was a gift from God , we left for Edam and a walk around the town with a little history thrown in for good measure.
