A new release from Tristram Marine is always significant, but the Offshore is more so than most. Almost three years in the making, the new model is the result of a painstaking development process and many, many hours of Computer Aided Design CAD work. Tristram Marine is somewhat unusual among New Zealand fibreglass trailer boat manufacturers in having fully embraced CAD. The Offshore is an important model for Tristram in many ways. With a completely new underwater profile, a wider beam, broader shoulders and a raised sheer, Tristram Marine is heralding it as a game changer for the trailer boat industry. The team at Tristram took a risk deviating from a tried and true design philosophy, which has produced a range of variable deadrise trailer boat models up to the Offshore, most of them boasting deep-vee hulls with excellent rough water performance. With the , Tristram Marine has set out to build a large blue water trailer boat that pays serious attention to sport fishing: with its size, range, performance and layout, it is the most fishing-focussed Tristram yet. Tristram Marine has released the new model in two versions: diesel sterndrive and twin outboard. The sterndrive model belongs to Graeme and Karen, who traded up from a Tristram sterndrive, and the outboard version to Spencer and Patrice, who owned a Tristram outboard. Although modest, it gives the boat a more muscular look and certainly adds presence on the water. Our dramatic introduction to the boats was as we rounded the point into Cathedral Cove. Both s were waiting for us, looking resplendent bathed in the morning light. The well-proportioned hardtop is unique to this model, wider and redesigned so there is less distance in the ceiling between the male and female moulds, but still room enough to run the wiring for the lights and radar dome. OceanBlue game poles and a nicely vertical, position stainless steel rocket launcher send a strong signal that this is a sport fishing model. The engine box takes up very little cockpit space, which is a generous size thanks to the extra beam.

Its hydraulic steering is smooth and the Simrad autopilot will get plenty of use as Graeme and Karen cruise from place to place, tristram boats.

A moulded channel around the underfloor compartment allows owners to hose their cockpits without water draining into under the floor, and cleverly designed side pockets offer great storage, while remaining easy to clean. Side bolsters and teak side decks work brilliantly for anglers and divers, and moulded walk-throughs on both the port and starboard sides of the transom enable easy access from the cockpit to the boarding platforms and vice-versa. Non-skid fibreglass flooring, removable carpet and SeaDek flooring treatments are available which each offer unique properties for a variety of boating activities. Two hardtop hatches introduce natural light and airflow into the cockpit area. All Tristram hardtops are designed with moulded side and top flares for wind deflection. Ceilings are also lined with vinyl paneling for sound absorption. LED downlights are standard and optional forward-facing, rear-facing and pelmet strip lighting packages are available also. Traditionally, boats of this size offer cooking facilities in the entrance to the cabin. The cabin remains free from cooking smells which keeps it fresh for overnighting.
