Some people are born beautiful and some people aren't, ugly meme. Fortunately for the latter, there are very few beautiful people in this world to be compared to.

Well later that day I was on google and I decided to look up meme's without even thinking about the picture copied and saved. Well as I was looking through these meme's I was think that it would cool to create something that went around the internet by millions of people. At first still not thinking about the picture I saved, just thinking about how cool it would be. A couple of minutes pass by and it hits me. I came to the idea of using that picture I saved and creating something out of it. I opened Photoshop, cut his face out and put it in front of a transparent background and saved it as a gif. I went around google and looked up situations, and found a picture of some building collapsing, saved it on my computer, opened it on photoshop and put his face in front of it.

The question stumped me at first, because how could I pick one? My brain is a meme dumpster, where families of memes exist in chaotic harmony, and trying to break them apart into single objects, rather than treating them as clusters of multi-textual references, is difficult. I explained to her that I really enjoyed looking at these slightly strange memes, which became more popular during the pandemic, about returning back to pre-modern animal innocence. The isolation, fatigue and frustration made me even more dependant on social media. The first was 1 my enjoyment of the meme, or the object itself, then came the 2 identification with the object, after which I engaged in 3 self-reflection as a result of the object and my self-identification with it, and finally 4 I revelled in an imagined, virtual sociality over a shared memetic sentiment. After all, why just be satisfied with enjoying a meme, when you can over-analyse it? Another element of internet memes however are their aesthetic compositions, which these abstractions could not account for. However, none of these explanations really captured the essence of why the meme looked funny, until I realised that in order to answer this question, I would have to interrogate the role of irony and ugliness in memes.
