Just had our new HW floor installed yesterday in kitchen and foyer. There are two entry doors, the front entrance and garage. Since the floor is higher now than it was before,there is no clearance for a rug at the entrance unless I take the weather strip off the bottom of the door. They are steel doors, so can't be cut down. What do we do?

During the winter we are definitely going to need a decent mat to wipe our wellies on too. Googling hasn't got me very far because most sites don't give you mat thickness. Help - any ideas anyone? Could you try a piece of waterproof material, such as the tablecloth fabric you can get from Dunelm, to have in the immediate doorway, and then have a thicker absorbent mat to the side of the door, so you can step in and then place the boots etc on the proper mat without getting the floor dirty? I was thinking some kind of material too, although maybe something cleverly absorbant, but I'd have to make it look like a mat and not like a piece of material stuck to the floor else it would drive me mad! No, in an ideal world I'd like to speak to the builder who "levelled" the floor and to the person who fitted the door and say, "Duh!
