Clearly they hadn't told their friends about them yet so it may be that although it listed her as "Mike's new girlfriend", it's more likely they'd just begun to see each other probably over texting and possibly might never even have kissed prior to that night, as they seemed to have hardly been physical previous judging by the tension between them.
