They have near identical standards for lifts, consistency between competitions throughout the US, and exceptional atmospheres for the sport of powerlifting. But there are some main differences that make the need for two powerlifting federations within the United States. USPA does have a drug tested division, but its popularity is minimal and competitions are significantly less frequent than with its untested division. While this is a major difference, the fact is that there are plenty of natural athletes competing in the USPA as well, as it is just personal preference due to other differences listed below. For USPA, they do have an approved equipment list, but it is fairly vast and all major brands are included on it. This is a very minor thing, but it is a difference.

The following ALF form is for providing detailed contact information of all USA Powerlifting athletes who are notified you are in the Registered Testing Pool to help the administration with performing Out-of-Meet tests. The form is to be filled out online by the stated deadline each quarter and is automatically submitted to the Anti-Doping Chair responsible for OMTs. Failure to submit your ALF by the deadline, or to keep your whereabouts accurate will result in removal from teams and suspension. If you have a medication that is prescribed that appears on this list, you need to file for a TUE. Testosterone or any derivatives thereof will not be approved by historical precedent in our organization. For those of you that are not aware, many medications used for the treatment of ADHD are amphetamines. If abused, they can enhance performance.

We have labored under a system that was difficult…for a lot of lifters, a lot of the time. We have the chance to reverse that now. Part of that chance includes adding two new weight categories to their sanctioned competitions. The return to the original weight classes and the new additions will be instated on Jan. Per Maile, six countries requested to be affiliates of USAPL he did not say which countries specifically and four international federations offered USAPL to be affiliates of them again, he did not say which federations. Working with other federations, although on the table, is not the primary objective of USAPL at the moment.

In the USPA your head is allowed to come up off the bench and heels are allow to leave the floor, where as in the USAPL your head must remain on the bench and feet flat. Charley Chang.
