The episode focused on Thorfinn's current state of mind, which is clearly different from when he was with Askeladd's group. Thorfinn has changed a lot, but what brought about this transformation was kept under wraps. With every passing episode, fans have been learning more and more about the new Thorfinn. In the episode, Thorfinn and Einar were ordered by Fox and Badger to tag along to a rather secluded location on the farm, which was filled with Guests. Within minutes of their arrival, Fox revealed that Olmar had to kill Thorfinn and Einar to become a man.

After his father is killed, young Thorfinn joins the mercenary band of his murderer Askeladd, waiting for his revenge while Askeladd plots politics. Young Thorfinn longs for an adventure far from his home in Iceland. One day, his father saves the life of a runaway slave found buried in the snow. Meanwhile, Thors and his army of enthusiastic young men embark on their voyage. Hoping to save all the villagers, he offers Askeladd a deal. Leif breaks the news to Helga and Ylva. Driven by his hatred for Askeladd, he grows to become a capable warrior. Smelling an opportunity for treasure, Askeladd decides to join a skirmish among the Franks. He sends year-old Thorfinn to negotiate on his behalf. Shortly after landing, Askeladd finally grants Thorfinn his long-awaited duel. The Danes attack London.

Thorfinn's behavior annoyed Fox so much that he made several small cuts on Thorfinn's body.

Since he is already quite injured, Thorfinn is taken to a doctor but is luckily declared fit enough to continue working the following day. Just when Fox is about to seriously injure Thorfinn, Snake intervenes and beats him up for his reckless actions. He then comes close to Thorfinn and inspects him for a few seconds before trying to slash him with his sword. Everyone standing there is left dumbfounded unable to grasp why he had been so quiet until this point when he was capable of pulling off so much more. Although Thorfinn barely manages to escape death, he is already quite injured and has lost half of his left ear. Therefore, Einar immediately takes him to a doctor, so that they can take cognizance of his health and give him the treatment that he needs. Thankfully, Thorfinn does not seem to have any serious injuries and the doctor assures him that he will be able to recover in no time. He concludes that this is only possible because Thorfinn is actually a warrior. Einar does not overthink and directly asks Thorfinn if he had ever been to war.

Despite Einar being grumbling of Thorfinn's silence, the former decides to follow the latter, continuing work, and questioning of his warrrior history before being a slave, which are many during Season 1. More or less saving Thorfinn life by stopping Fox and the rest from slaughtering him. Best Anime Of Winter As a new millennium dawns, Thorfinn struggles to find meaning in his life. But this episode was largely anime original. Thorffin is the best mc. He can see that Thorfinn is struggling himself and we even see the horrible nightmares Thorfinn experiences dealing with his personal guilt too. But then things quickly turn dark, and Thorfinn must face his painful past.

Despite Thorfinn's insistence on how little he values his own life, the swiftness with which his leg rises to block Snake's blow says otherwise, something that Snake could clearly see in Thorfinn when Thorfinn was silently enduring all of Fox's torment and insults.

Following their narrow escape, the two heroes found themselves at Pater's hut. More Canute and Thorkell next week!
