Vintage Story is a sandbox survival game developed and published by Anego Studios. The founders of Anego Studios, Tyron and Irena Madlener, began development on a standalone version of an earlier mod for Minecraft called Vintagecraft. An old version of the game is available for free download. The player character is a tall humanoid, referred to as a seraph by the game and developers. Gameplay is generally focused on creating a realistic and immersive experience. Creating many items revolves around interacting with the in-game world instead of a GUI. For example, in order to create a clay bowl, players place small voxels into the shape of a bowl. Other aspects of gameplay include prospecting for minerals and ores, animal husbandry and farming, and building. Another focus of gameplay is exploration. Infinite worlds with realistic biomes and randomly generated structures provide an engaging player experience. One of the most popular features of the game is its modding API, which is praised for its flexibility and quality. Power Up Gaming described Vintage Story as being "on a completely different level" than other block-based survival games due to its approach to crafting and inventory management, noting that the game fixes all the "nagging problems that everyone has" in other open-world survival block-based games by allowing the player to open multiple menus at the same time and interact with items more naturally.

Fast forward four years, however, there was little sign of dressing green on the main Oscars red carpet. Why is the game not on Steam? We are fully aware that Steam will offer a lot of additional exposure and likely a large increase in sales. There's several reasons we are not going to Steam in the near future, and the opinions also vary greatly within the Team of Anego Studios, but here's Tyrons take:. That being said, we do agree that it would be wise to release it on Steam eventually. We do appreciate Steams ability to reach a large audience as well as offering country specific pricing. We offer a Family Pack which gives 4 game accounts at a significant discount compared with buying them individually. We also sometimes give out use- and time-limited coupons to influencers with a target audience from low-income countries, such as Russia or Brazil. Beyond that there are currently no plans to sell the game temporarily or permanently at a lower price. We consider Vintage Story to still be in early access, not due to its lack of stability and performance, but because our full vision is far from implemented.
