A new series of art installations hosted by The Nature Conservancy aims to connect hikers to the land through the art. Billings, who lives in Tunbridge, draws on nature for her large-scale public art installations. We have to care. At Raven Ridge, more than 1, feet of cotton cloth stretches from tree to tree. The fabric contains saturated blue tree rubbings that interact with the light filtering through the forest leaves. The installation vibrates in the wind and follows the ridges in the rock foundations, like water running off the hilly land. Billings used a photographic printing process called cyanotype to produce the deep blues and detailed patterns of the tree bark. She suspects there will be a lot of people questioning, Why?

Stories in Vermont. Last updated October 13, Every ecosystem must be balanced—in the absence of top predators, this balance is easily skewed. For example, lack of predation on deer can cause a significant population increase, which impacts forest regeneration. Today, our hunters perform this ecological role by keeping populations in check. Learn about the effects of white-tailed deer in northeastern forests. For a map and list of our natural areas including contact information for areas requiring permission, please see our map and list of TNC Vermont lands that are open to hunting. All Vermont hunting and fishing regulations must be obeyed. Rules that must be followed on TNC lands are listed below and you are encouraged to contact us if you have any additional questions.
