Bella McKavitch wants to kidnap Chris Hale, in order to find out about a gold shipment which she thinks the wagon train is carrying, but her dimwitted sons nab Wooster instead.

The show follows the adventures of a group of pioneers as they travel westward in search of a better life. While the show was not based on a true story, it does capture the spirit of the American frontier and the challenges faced by those who ventured into the unknown. Ward Bond played the role of Major Seth Adams for the first five seasons, and then after his passing, John McIntire took over the role as Christopher Hale for the remaining three seasons. Both actors brought their own unique style to the character, and fans of the show appreciated their performances. Another interesting fact is that the show featured a rotating cast of guest stars, including some well-known actors of the time.
