Wally was one of the rivals for the player in generation 3 and the remakes of the Hoenn games. Players loved this character because he was so likable and nice to the player and was a great step up from the more rude rivals in the previous installments of the series. There are lots of little things that people missed about Wally because he doesn't have too many interactions with the player and most of them are pretty quick. Wally decides to go a different route and catch his own starter in the wild, which ended up being a Ralts. This was a nice change of pace for the player, however, unfortunately, they still had to fight their other rival who also picked a normal starter. It is evident in the game that he has some kind of illness but players may not realize just how chronic it seems to be.
