The World's Strongest Man is an international strongman competition held every year. The current event sponsor is SBD Apparel.

As the Strongman season draws to a close — and what an incredible year it has been! Now speculation can begin as to who will be in the line-up and what the events will be. The contest looks certain to continue in its present format: thirty athletes divided into five heats of six men, with the top two to qualify for the grand final. Each heat winner should progress automatically, whilst the second and third placed athletes will secure their place through a Stone-off. How this will affect the scheduling is yet to be seen, but it is a development that will be welcomed by the fans and athletes alike.

Brian Shaw born February 26, is an American retired professional strongman who is widely regarded as one of the greatest strength athletes of all-time. In , Shaw became the first man to win the Arnold Strongman Classic and the World's Strongest Man competitions in the same calendar year, a feat he replicated in Shaw's mother has also noted that Brian had uncles of exceptional stature on both sides of his family tree. Shaw was one of the team leaders for the Rattlers in his sophomore season. Following Otero, he went to Black Hills State University where he was on a full basketball scholarship [1] and received a degree in wellness management. During his basketball career, Shaw was "hooked on the weights" and he has said that the weight room was his "sanctuary". In his own words, "I've always been able to do this. The biggest tire, the heaviest stone I've always been able to walk up and lift it. Odd strength is what it is, not weight-room strength. It's brute strength.

There are a number of events that make up each competition. Tom Stoltman 2.

The problem, of course, is that weighing up great champions of different eras is fraught with danger and coming up with an objective means of comparing their achievements is not at all straightforward. Or is it? Surely the man who has lifted the heaviest weights across a selection of the most commonly contested tests of strength should be relatively easy to identify? Afraid not. That is precisely the reason strongman as a sport exists, with all its wonderful diversity of disciplines involving explosive strength, endurance and speed. Otherwise, the powerlifting world champion would simply be declared the strongest and that would be the end of the debate. This supposition is based on a belief that they are intrinsically superior in some aspect and if transplanted into the modern era would still rise to the top.

The contest was won by Tom Stoltman with this being his second consecutive title. In the event of a draw, the higher placing athlete in the last event, in this case Licis in the Atlas Stones, wins the tie-breaker. Caron declined to compete. Caron was unable to compete as he recovered from injuries he sustained at the Arnold Strongman Classic. The 30 athletes were divided into 5 groups of 6 athletes, with 2 athletes from each group progressing to the final of The winner of each group progressed to the final, and 2nd and 3rd in each group would then advance to a 'Stone Off', from which the winner would also progress. Originally, Ireland's Pa O'Dwyer was supposed to be in this group, but was forced to withdraw due to injury, and was replaced by Scotland's Andy Black. Defending World's Strongest Man Tom Stoltman would dominate this group, winning each of the first 4 events, before simply picking up the wrecking ball to get 1 point, and secure the group win. Hooper stunned everyone, winning the first 3 events, before placing joint second on the log lift, meaning he needed just 1 point from the wrecking ball hold to secure the group win.
