The search is going on ever since we moved to our current house where we have to dine at the dining table on daily basis — which is about 11 years. I tried all kids of fabric table cloths including easy care and vinyl, transparent plastic cover on top of table cloth or directly over the table, tick and wide place mats and none were even close to satisfying. Easy care table cloth kind of worked ok, but as easy as just wiping and I did not like vinyl on my dining room. I found an oilcloth tablecloth from Ikea several years ago and it outperformed all others: super easy to clean, style is much better than vinyl but can be improved. These days I am hoping the oilcloth fabric from these UK online stores.
