The goat format's totally separate from the officially supported Advanced Format, and while you can't play it at official events you can still enjoy it with friends in unsanctioned settings.

Goat Format's the most popular unofficial format in the Yu-Gi-Oh community, but don't let the name fool you: you don't have to play Goat Control to win duels. In fact, the Goat Control 'era' wasn't dominated by one specific deck. There are plenty of competitive strategies from that time, and modern Goat Format tournaments have an even wider variety of decks! Of course, if you're playing Goat Format because you want to play Goat Control then you're in luck. Goat Control's one of the most competitive strategies in the format, and its unique playstyle is a breath of fresh air if you're a little exhausted from today's combo decks. Goat Format's an excuse to revel in nostalgia, and embrace a change of pace using cards you might already own. And if you don't own those cards already? Well good news: unless you want to go max rarity, Goat Format decks are super-cheap to build. I wrote an article earlier this year that covered the four things you should know about Goat Format , so if you're not familiar with it I highly recommend you start there. The core of the Goat Control strategy is Metamorphosis , a spell card that lets you cheat out Thousand-Eyes Restrict by tributing a Level 1 monster from your field. This deck's loaded with Level 1s, including Magician of Faith , Magical Merchant , and Sinister Serpent , but you'll typically use a token created with Scapegoat to feed Metamorphosis. The Sheep Tokens are largely useless anyways without Links, so they're generally only used to block attacks and act as fodder for Metamorphosis.

You're probably noticing that there's no Extra Deck listed here, and that's for a very specific reason: they didn't exist at the time! Nobleman of Crossout. Breaker the Magical Warrior. You can discard 1 card, then target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target. Remove Forbidden Card "Delinquent Duo" x 1. The ranking is calculated based on newly created Decks and Decks used in tournaments. XYZ-Dragon Cannon. This is a list of cards whose usage in official tournaments is either prohibited or limited in terms of the number of cards with the same name allowed in a Deck. Countering that stream of free card economy is usually about setting up negation effects or deploying floodgates rather than out-resourcing yor opponent. I personally like the idea of leading with Jinzo or Breaker the Magical Warrior whenever possible to counter cards like Raigeki Break or Torrential Tribute. The staples are largely the same between each deck, but there's still a lot of variation in how each deck plays out. You'll absolutely need an answer to Thousand-Eyes Restrict though. Remove Forbidden Card "Pot of Greed" x 1.

The Advanced Format is overwhelmingly the most popular way to play: if you head to a tournament at your local card shop, or you go to a big event to compete, that's the format you'll be playing. But if you've been in the game long enough, or even if you're just a big Yu-Gi-Oh fan, you'll eventually hear about Goat Format: a player-created format that's spread for years by word of mouth. Unfortunately, because the format's not officially recognized, there aren't many resources available for curious new players who want to get more involved.

There's almost no way to recover from that, and you'll see plenty of builds online featuring a full playset of Trap Dustshoot for that reason. If you activate this effect, this card cannot attack during this turn. But Metamorphosis didn't make Thousand-Eyes Restrict explode in the End Phase, which meant it could stay on the field indefinitely as long as you could keep it safe. Keep in mind that flip monsters are tremendously powerful in this format, and you'll pay a steep price by blindly attacking set monsters. That said, Yu-Gi-Oh still had plenty more transformations waiting for it in future sets, and the goat format wouldn't be the last 'end of an era' for the game. The Decks are then shuffled. This is an official site for the Yu-Gi-Oh! How to Play. There were no hand traps, and the player going first could draw a card on their first turn. If you do, after damage calculation: Destroy this card. You can only activate 1 "Ring of Destruction" per turn. It's well-worth investing in a Goat Format deck or two to play with your friends, or with newcomers to the game. You can only use this effect of "Sinister Serpent" once per turn. This is a list of cards whose usage in official tournaments is either prohibited or limited in terms of the number of cards with the same name allowed in a Deck. There's a few things you'll need to know when you consider building a goat format deck, and this week we'll discuss some of the basics you'll need to keep in mind.
