It has taken seven years since the last World Bowls Championship, but the wait was well worth it. The Championship concluded on a very high note on Sunday September 10 with the closing ceremony being a real festive celebration amongst all the players and officials at the Broadbeach Bowls Club, Gold Coast, Australia. The event was a great success with the weather being exceptional, the playing greens running well and many volunteers supporting the forty-four nations from around the world who participated in the largest World Bowls Championship ever! The host clubs played an important role in the success of this event, and we offer our thanks to Broadbeach, Helensvale, Musgrave, Mudgeeraba and Paradise Point who all presented their Clubs in great condition over the two weeks. The blue ribbon singles events were won by New Zealander Tayla Bruce and Canadian Ryan Bester and the final tally of medals featured twelve countries from the forty — four competing. The broadcast and streaming coverage was excellent and thanks to Bowls Australia for organising this. After a seven year hiatus, I am looking forward to using this event as a strong platform to promote and a profile the sport into the future and attract more countries as members of World Bowls.
