Each of the over 7, acfas, acfas, members have graduated from one of nine podiatric medical schools in the US with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. ACFAS is a professional medical organization of over 7, podiatric foot and ankle surgeons practicing in the United States and was formed in The college also functions acfas representing foot and ankle surgeons, helping to advance acfas improve the standards of education and surgical skill in foot and ankle care in the US.

Its name was changed in to the Association francophone pour le savoir. Despite the name change, Acfas retained the acronym by which it has become known. Since May , the Association has simply been called Acfas. The current president is Jean-Pierre Perreault. The association played an important role in building Francophone Quebec's scholarly community, supporting the growth of an intellectual milieu outside the formal boundaries of the Catholic Church. Today Acfas is best known for the scholarly prizes it awards annually and for its yearly conference of French-language learned societies in Canada, which is hosted by a different university each year, usually in Quebec.
