Postnatal depression which persists beyond six months after birth and is severe, increases the risk of children exhibiting behavioural problems, achieving lower GCSE mathematics grades at 16 years and having depression at 18 years of age. A major international study has pinpointed more than genetic risk factors that explain why some people suffer from asthma, hay fever and eczema. Children and their families have been followed intensively, primarily with annual questionnaires, as well as clinical assessments for a sub-sample of cohort members. ALSPAC was specifically designed to understand the ways in which genetic and environmental factors interact to influence health, behaviour, and development across the lifespan. Mental health measures collected in postal questionnaires and from clinic assessments are detailed on the Catalogue. Sample details Pregnant women residing in Avon with an expected delivery date between the 1 April and the 31 December were eligible to participate. The initial sample was recruited during Phase I, in which mothers enrolled in the study during pregnancy and then either returned at least one questionnaire or attended a "Children in Focus" clinic by 19 July This initial sample consisted of 14, pregnancies 14, foetuses, with twin, 3 triplet and 1 quadruplet pregnancies , resulting in 14, live births. Eligible cohort members who did not join in Phase I have joined the study through major recruitment drives since the cohort members were 7 years old. A further eligible cohort members have been enrolled in this way. As a result of further enrolment during Phases II 7years , III 8 years and IV 18 years , the baseline sample consists of 15, pregnancies 15, known foetuses and 14, cohort members alive at 1 year of age. Sample size at recruitment 15, enrolled pregnancies 14, children cohort members alive at 1 year of age. Linkage to administrative data Education data Environmental data Health data Social media data. Decisions were hierarchical, alspac data, regarding whether the pregnancy was enrolled in ALSPAC, whether the child from the pregnancy was alive at 1 year of age or not, and the phase of G1 study child recruitment see decision process in Figure 3. This questionnaire was available in online format only. At 10 and 13 years, the diary was designed for the child to complete alspac data the help of their parents.

We welcome requests from all researchers to access ALSPAC data and samples, whatever your research area, institution, location or funding source. We can also help you collect new data and samples through a variety of activities, including whole cohort questionnaire collections, recall-by-genotype substudies, small-scale qualitative interview studies and clinic-based biomedical measurements. We are considering how international data sharing may be affected by Brexit and the Schrems II judgement. If you have any questions about accessing data or samples, please email alspac-data bristol. For more information on how to apply to access this resource, please visit the University's Special Collections website. Once your research proposal has been approved, you will be assigned a data buddy who will help you at every stage of your project. They will send you the relevant paperwork and documentation for accessing the data and samples.

Initial recruitment of pregnant women took place in and the health and development of the index children from these pregnancies and their family members have been followed ever since. The eligible sampling frame was constructed retrospectively using linked recruitment and health service records. Additional offspring that were eligible to enrol in the study have been welcomed through major recruitment drives at the ages of 7 and 18 years; and through opportunistic contacts since the age of 7. This data note provides a status update on the recruitment of the index children since the age of 7 years with a focus on enrolment since the age of 18, which has not been previously described. A total of additional G1 the cohort of index children participants have been enrolled in the study since the age of 7 years with of these joining since the age of This additional enrolment provides a baseline sample of 14, G1 participants who were alive at 1 year of age.

I confirm that I have read this submission and believe that I have an appropriate level of expertise to confirm that it is of an acceptable scientific standard. Compared with the whole of Great Britain in , the population of mothers with infants under one year of age resident in Avon were more likely to live in owner occupied accommodation, to have a car and less likely to have one or more persons per room and be non-white [90]. At the time of writing there are 14, unique mothers enrolled in ALSPAC, with 15, associated pregnancies enrolled. Variables have therefore been created to assist researchers working with these cases and a flow chart designed to guide decision making Figure 2. Home Members. During initial recruitment all pregnant women who were resident in the former county of Avon, an area around Bristol in South West England, with an expected delivery date between 1 st April and 31 st December were invited to participate [88, 89]. A major international study has pinpointed more than genetic risk factors that explain why some people suffer from asthma, hay fever and eczema. Participants have donated a range of samples, including blood, urine, hair, nails, saliva and teeth. These DPs were socially patterned and while similar patterns were identified at each childhood point, stronger periods of change were apparent between 3 and 4 and 7 and 9 years. Are sufficient details of methods and materials provided to allow replication by others?

The second version of our manuscript takes into account the constructive comments made by the reviewers. In particular, we have provided detail in the introduction explaining what the UK lockdown entailed and we have emphasised the issues with applying the Menni algorithm to symptom data collected in in both the results and discussion. See the authors' detailed response to the review by Sarah Crozier and Janis Baird.

We are now collecting information about the health and lives of their children G2 , extending ALSPAC to become a unique three-generation study. As a result of further enrolment during Phases II 7years , III 8 years and IV 18 years , the baseline sample consists of 15, pregnancies 15, known foetuses and 14, cohort members alive at 1 year of age. Institution You must provide an institution. Guidance for analysing datasets including mothers with two enrolled pregnancies Commonly used statistical tests and models assume independence 5 , 6. Lawlor , Jean Golding , Kate Northstone. Note: Sometimes the sample counts presented here will be inaccurate - consult the data dictionary data dictionary for accurate summary data for each of the variables Note: High dimensional biological data including genetic variants, DNA methylation measures and gene expression measures are not included in this tool. Note when using these variables to remove duplicate mothers, there are 19 pregnancies where the mother is enrolled in the core ALSPAC sample but the pregnancy to keep is part of the non-core sample; this occurs because these 19 mothers have two pregnancies enrolled in ALSPAC; one in core which did not survive to 1 year hence why the mother is core enrolled , while the other is a non-core enrolled pregnancy, which is the one to keep. Each mother may therefore have completed a separate questionnaire for each pregnancy; as such, the data may not be identical on each occasion, but are potentially correlated. There are mothers who did not formally enrol in ALSPAC themselves, although their pregnancy was assumed to be enrolled because the associated G1-offspring is enrolled the majority of these enrolments occurred after the G1 child was 18 years of age, and hence are non-core G1 offspring enrolments. The technical storage or access is necessary for the legitimate purpose of storing preferences that are not requested by the subscriber or user. Thank you! For some ALSPAC data collection events the focus has been on the G0 mother, meaning that data linked to both pregnancies will be identical e. Browse Content.
