I recently exported all my AnkiApp cards to Anki on my laptop. In order to export the media, I had to make subfolders for each of my 15 decks in the collection. All of my cards and media all images were successfully uploaded into Anki from AnkiApp. However, when I synced to AnkiWeb emphasized text , none of the media files transferred. When I click under media on the app it says I have missing and unused media files.

Anki has a free cloud synchronization service called AnkiWeb that makes it easy to keep your card decks in sync between mobile devices and your computer. If you are an existing Anki user with cards on your computer, syncing is the easiest way to start using those cards on your mobile device as well. If you have used AnkiWeb in the past, you can skip this step. If prompted to upload or download, choose 'upload' to send your cards to AnkiWeb. Please make sure you wait for media files to finish syncing. If you have a lot of sounds or images on your cards, the first sync may take some time, and until it completes, sounds and images may fail to appear. After the first synchronization has completed, you can click the synchronize button again any time you wish to synchronize your changes to the cloud. Only changes made since the previous sync will be sent, so subsequent syncs are a lot faster. If you receive a message about an image being missing, the most common cause is because media has not finished syncing yet. Please follow the steps on that page to confirm that all of your Anki clients have finished syncing media. Remember that if you've added images on your computer, you'll need to confirm the computer has finished syncing first, and then check AnkiMobile. If you have confirmed media has finished syncing, but still receive a message about a missing image, then it is possible that the author of the shared deck you are using has accidentally or deliberately failed to include one or more images. If you're able to contact the deck author, it may be worth notifying them of the issue, as they may be able to provide you with the missing image in a deck update. If you're unable to reach them, and want to make the warning go away, please read on.
If you are on a work or school network, please contact your network administrator for assistance - it is not something we can help you with, anki sync.

Once the initial one way sync is completed, Anki will be able to merge changes from multiple locations with a few exceptions.

Advanced users who cannot or do not wish to use AnkiWeb can use a self-hosted sync server instead. Make sure you have Python 3. From Anki 2. Make sure you have Rustup installed. The server needs to store a copy of your collection and media in a folder. This must not be the same location as your normal Anki data folder, as the server and client must store separate copies. The server listens on an unencrypted HTTP connection, so it's not a good idea to expose it directly to the internet. You'll want to either restrict usage to your local network, or place some form of encryption in front of the server, such as a VPN Tailscale is apparently easy , or a HTTPS reverse proxy.

If changes have been made on both ends, only changes on one end can be preserved. Maybe they were imported as just file. If you see a warning about the same image name on every card, it means that the deck author has added an image to the "Card Template", which is shared by multiple cards. If you open the Edit screen and see a broken image icon, one of the images on that card is missing.

If you attempt to synchronize multiple profiles with a single AnkiWeb account, you will lose data. If the same card has been reviewed in two different locations, both reviews will be marked in the revision history, and the card will be kept in the state it was when it was most recently answered. How then do I upload the media files to the appropriate cards when the same file name has been given to multiple media images? If your system uses automatic proxy setup, or uses a proxy that requires a username and password, you will need to manually tell Anki the proxy configuration. It will look like:.
