Dora the Explorer is an American media franchise centered on an eponymous animated interactive fourth wall children's television series created by Chris Gifford , Valerie Walsh Valdes and Eric Weiner, produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and originally ran on Nickelodeon from August 14, to June 5, , with the final six unaired episodes later airing from July 7 to August 9, Each episode is based around a series of cyclical events that occur along the way during Dora's travels, along with obstacles that she and Boots are forced to overcome or puzzles that they have to solve with "assistance" from the viewing audience relating to riddles , the Spanish language, or counting. Common rituals may involve Dora's encounters with Swiper, a bipedal , anthropomorphic masked thieving fox whose theft of the possessions of others must be prevented through fourth-wall —breaking interaction with the viewer. To stop Swiper, Dora must say "Swiper no swiping" three times. However, on occasions where Swiper steals the belongings of other people, the viewer is presented with the challenge of helping Boots and Dora locate the stolen items.

Dora and her best friend, a monkey named Boots, invite the viewers to participate in an exciting adventure. Each step on the journey presents some kind of problem or puzzle, and Dora and the viewer must think their way to the solution. Dora is proudly bilingual and uses that knowledge to communicate with her friends, overcome obstacles and reach her goal. Dora and Boots read about a chicken that's as big as a house and set off to meet him. First they'll have to cross a broken Bridge, then open a locked Gate, and at last they'll reach the Big Red Hill. But where's the Big Red Chicken? Dora and Boots find a little baby blue bird who fell out of her nest. Poor bird! She's wet and cold and misses her mommy. Can Dora and Boots reunite baby with Mommy? What's that funny sound coming from Yellow Valley? Dora and Boots set off to investigate. They'll have to go across the Noisy River, then tiptoe through the Quiet Forest, and that's how they'll get to Yellow Valley to find the sound.
