Utilizing a Maksutov-Cassegrain design these scopes have optics that are sharp above what one would expect from an entry level line of scopes all in a very compact package. Simply put there is a bit much plastic involved leading to a less den sturdy mount. The OTA is well built when looking at it from the front end. As you move towards the rear you start to again run into the weakness of the EXT. The plastic. The rear housing that holds the eyepiece holder, flip mirror, and focuser is made of a plastic that is not horrible in quality but certainly makes the OTA feel cheap. The built in flip mirror is a cool option and allows you to use a standard diagonal 1.

When I'm not writing reviews, I'm out under the night sky with my own homemade or modified telescopes, with over 7 years of hands-on experience in astronomy, having owned telescopes myself, of which 20 I built entirely. The ETX, like other Maksutov-Cassegrains, is a great performer thanks to its excellent optics, but it might not be the ideal choice for your first — or only — instrument. With a modest mm aperture and an unusually long mm focal length, its capabilities are mainly limited to observing the Moon, planets, double stars, and the brightest deep-sky objects. In , Orion, the new owner of Meade, revived the ETX and models, seemingly utilizing old tooling from the mids acquired during the Meade Instruments acquisition. Ironically, the ETX AT is a considerable improvement over the ETX Observer model, which it replaces, mainly due to its higher build quality and more compact form factor. Apertura AD10 Dobsonian. Zhumell Z10 Dobsonian. However, the most impressive planetary views with this telescope are usually achieved at slightly lower powers, usually around x magnification. This is a fabulous telescope for the Moon and planets or splitting double stars, and mm of aperture is enough to start to resolve globular clusters into stars and view details in galaxies, though not as well as a larger telescope will. This rules out larger open clusters and nebulae from fitting in the field whatsoever. Boasting a degree apparent field of view, this eyepiece offers acceptable eye relief for those wearing glasses and delivers 73x magnification with the ETX, translating to a true field of view slightly over 1 degree, or about double the angular diameter of the full Moon. Although the 26mm Super Plossl yields sharp views to the edge of the field, its degree apparently field of view is not exceptionally immersive, and the 73x magnification it provides is not ideal for viewing larger deep-sky objects. The ETX AT comes with a standard battery-powered red dot finder, which is mounted on the scope using a non-standard bracket. For aligning the GoTo system or targeting bright objects, it functions adequately, though with a mm focal length, a red dot is certainly not the most precise option for aiming.
The ETX telescope is internally powered by 8 user-supplied Etx 125 batteries which will run it for approximately 20 hours under normal usage. Warranty: Meade 1 Year Limited. Power requirement 8-AA batteries.

Use your smartphone or other dedicated astrophotography camera to take high quality solar system images including the rings of Saturn, cloud bands of Jupiter, and extremely high resolution details of the lunar surface. Or simply attach the included eyepiece or other optional eyepieces for a jaw dropping look at the universe around you. The mm aperture pulls in double the amount of light of the ETX90, for stunning views of fainter deep-sky objects. If you are looking for a high-quality portable telescope with exquisite optics and absolutely loaded with features and the performance you desire, look no further!
The extremely popular ETX takes mobile astronomy to the next level. The ETX Observer has a Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design for pinpoint star images and extraordinary contrast, making it a great deep-sky performer and ideal for detailed lunar and planetary observation. The ETX Observer also includes a stable but portable full-size steel tripod with dual-fork mount and equatorial EQ tilt plate - allowing for polar alignment, which is ideal for astrophotography. This model has an internal flip mirror to let light focus to the rear of the telescope instead of the mirror reflecting the light degrees to the eyepiece , allowing attachment of a camera on the back of the scope - adapters sold separately. Approximate assembled weight: Enjoy detailed, close-up views of the Moon and planets, and be amazed by the stunning views of star clusters, nebulae, and more!

At the time of observing I did not have any planets available to test the scope on but I know based on its double star performance that this scope would be a good planetary instrument. How to choose the perfect telescope. At our site, returns are easy! Setting circles Yes. Secondary mirror obstruction 52mm. The OTA is well built when looking at it from the front end. However, this feature is practically useless, as there is no fine adjustment knob on either axis — a must for a telescope with this long of a focal length — and manual aiming disrupts the alignment and accuracy of all GoTo and tracking functions. VAT, plus shipping costs. A mount is the foundation of an astronomical telescope. This computerized celestial object locating system plugs into the telescope's handbox port allowing a quick telescope alignment. Focal Length: mm. The tripod is a part of the mount, it provides a stable stand and is usually adjustable in height.

In addition to GoTo and tracking capability the AudioStar permits a wide array of fascinating and educational functions such as multiple Guided Tours, digital positional readouts, a database of up to user-defined objects, 9-Speed dual-axis movement, the ability to link with a PC using optionally available software and cord, and much more. The solar filter rejects all harmful light from the Sun, while allowing a very small fraction of light to pass through, so you can safely enjoy the fun of daytime solar astronomy. I found the focuser ok to use on the ETX. Approximate assembled weight: The ETX model was discontinued for awhile, but amateur astronomers should be happy that it has now returned.
