The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom art book leaks may offer an answer for not only Ganondorf's role in the game but also for how he died. Speculation about the villain of Breath of the Wild 's sequel has largely suggested Ganondorf will be Link's nemesis in the game. Although there has been no confirmation about this king being Ganondorf or a backstory given for how he was slain, the art book leaks potentially prove this king is Ganondorf and show how he died. Much of Tears of the Kingdom 's marketing material already points toward Ganondorf being the game's villain. Though the king from the trailers looks different from earlier depictions of Ganondorf, this could be because Ganondorf is a corpse in TOTK. Everything about the corpse - his magic that lifts Hyrule Castle in the air, his large stature, his red hair - suggests it is indeed Ganondorf, so this theory would make sense. The only thing working against it is the absence of Ganondorf in Breath of the Wild : It's unlikely that Ganondorf's body could lie beneath Hyrule Castle without people knowing he was there and could have posed a threat.

As Roam mentions, the remains of the old kingdom are on the Great Plateau. But why move the castle? Ironically the Plateau would have been more advantageous for the castle in the event of the Calamity. I think Hyrule Castle was moved to be above where Ganondorf was buried in order to seal him. This was of course a very long time ago and the Royal Family forgot he was buried directly below the castle. But perhaps there were some who constructed the tomb itself who worshipped Ganondorf. It does not seem to be the tomb to shame him but rather to bring him glory. With Ganondorf being the most infamous and malevolent man in all Hyrule, the idea of him buried in such a way by Hylians loyal to the goddess doesn't sit right with me. Perhaps he was buried by Hylians who worshipped him, alongside the Yiga.

Ganon is a nickname for Ganondorf and the name given to him when he transforms into his monster form, a boar-like beast. He is the archnemesis of Link and Princess Zelda. Introduced in The Legend of Zelda as a monstrous Prince of Darkness, Ganon has seen much development throughout the series, from being a simple monster to a powerful warlock with deeper motives to his actions.
Any great hero is nothing without an iconic villain to square off with. Serving as the main antagonist of the franchise, Ganondorf has appeared multiple times throughout the history of the series, taking on different physical forms and plotting a variety of dastardly schemes. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild introduced players to a brand new incarnation of Link's ancient nemesis Ganon, but even through Link has bested him once again, it might be too early to celebrate. The Gerudo details and the familiar miasma surrounding the shriveled corpse for Breath of the Wild 2 suggest that Ganondorf will be back with a vengeance. Exciting as that may be, it raises many questions about the first game. Was Calamity Ganon what players thought it was? How could this incarnation of Ganon be in two places at once, buried underground and conquering Hyrule? The answers may point to Breath of the Wild 2 featuring a stronger Ganondorf than Link has ever faced before. There is no questioning Calamity Ganon's remarkable power. Ganon conquers Hyrule before the game even begins, forcing Link to survive in a ravaged countryside while trying to save the kingdom.

He is a pure embodiment of the ancient evil that is reborn time and time again This nasty surprise also indirectly caused the death of Queen Sonia , and proved decisive in allowing Ganondorf to gain a virtually unlimited power. Ganon himself had drawn the Hero of Light into Hyrule, but he meets his hubris when he is destroyed again due to a combination of the Golden Sword and the Silver Arrows , both wielded by the Hero of Light. Ultimately with Zelda's aid, Ganondorf is defeated when Link deals the final blow by plunging the Master Sword straight into Ganondorf's forehead, turning him into stone [] and killing him. Clearly outmatched by the raw power of the Demon King, Rauru heeded Zelda's advice to retreat, and the two teleported to safety with the dying Queen in Zelda's arms. As for why there were two Calamity Ganons and what made him come back But I'm also bringing up this inconsistency and I'm wondering what comments people have about it. Ganondorf then takes his bestial form, Ganon, becoming an immensely powerful boar. Link wakes up at that point and Zelda approaches him holding the Master Sword for Link to engage Ganondorf in one last battle. They can be upgraded to the Swords of Darkness and Swords of Demise.
