The game's story, protagonist, setting and characters are all similar to Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland for PlayStation2. Hero of Leaf Valley can be viewed as an enhanced version of Save the Homeland with better graphics, more features, and the marriage system brought back. Leaf Valley is in trouble! The heartless Funland corporation is going to bulldoze the town and replace it with an amusement park unless its citizens can find a way to stop them. Players will need to grow crops, raise animals, and mine ores and gems to help save Leaf Valley and their family farm. Along the way, they'll earn money and develop their skills in interactive part-time jobs, and build their relationships with the villagers in order to gain their trust and help.

The game follows along the same lines as the rest of the Story of Seasons series, in which the player takes on the role of a farmer whose only goal in the game is to make a profit from the farm he runs including producing crops and raising livestock. The game is an enhanced remake of Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland , with many major changes. The player who is by default named Toy travels to Leaf Valley to pick up his grandfather's things after hearing that he has died. He learns that in two years, the village will be turned into an amusement park by a company called Funland, and encounters three Harvest Sprites named Nic, Nak, and Flak and the Harvest Goddess, who ask him to stay on the farm and help them. The player then decides to take over his grandfather's farm and work hard to turn the village around. He then makes it his goal to stop Funland's plans and increase the town's popularity to avert its destruction, all while having to deal with Alice's robotic creations. By choosing different paths, you can find up to 16 ways to save the village. If the player is successful in saving the village before the end of the second year, Alice will give back the deed and will either leave or stay depending on the player's actions. The player will then be faced with a second challenge: earning the required amount of money before the end of the third year to convince his father who doesn't think he can handle the farm by himself to allow him to stay in the village. A Place Called Home. They are games that are difficult to complete and they require that special someone who has loads of patience to give them the attention they rightfully need. Having been a huge Harvest Moon fan for years, I can say that this series has been largely one I like to relax to. Unlike the Nintendo DS which has numerous iterations, the PlayStation Portable has only had two titles to its name, and now finally a third one has been released with Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley. It is by no means, however, the same game, and those expecting a similar title may be pleasantly surprised by the numerous changes and additions made with Leaf Valley. Farming essentially takes a bit of a backseat as the objective this time around is to save Leaf Valley from the evils of the Funland Corporation, which threatens to build an amusement park on top of the land. Thankfully, there are so many different ways to save the valley that one cannot experience it all in just one playthrough. Although the simplest way to save Leaf Valley is to fork out 50, gold before the end of the second year, there are other options such as turning the valley into a tourist spot or making it into a nature reserve. Depending on which townspeople are befriended and the extent to which they are helped, new sections are added to the story and endings specific to various characters can be acquired. With roughly twenty or so endings to attain, this gives Leaf Valley tons of replay value, and an actual plot to boot.
