But while Adkins still maneuvers across the screen with terrifying ferocity, the role also gives Adkins space to really chew up the scene as an actor, and not just an action star. Who is this guy?

John Wick: Chapter 4 introduces a variety of fun new characters that expand upon the franchise's already meticulous world-building. Fans were excited to see a number of names that ring all the bells as action icons, including Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Marko Zaror. This litany of legends includes Scott Adkins , except nobody could identify him in the early trailers and clips. Adkins plays Killa, the head of the High Table in Germany. A rotund man to say the least, Killa operates out of an industrial nightclub in a smoke-filled backroom with a card table and plenty of henchmen. With a gold grill illuminating his smile, constant streams of dewy sweat on his face, a brightly ostentatious suit, and a slimy demeanor, Killa is a standout character in a film full of them. Not only does Adkins adopt an incredibly different accent and The Whale -like suit, but he takes on Wick in one of the film's strangest, most gleeful fight scenes.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is the best installment in the franchise since the first John Wick. It is pure theatre; a Grand Guignol opera drenched in neon. I love the John Wick franchise, which is sort of like Mission: Impossible for introverts who appreciate martial arts. I love Keanu Reeves, an actor who feels perpetually frozen in the year and has given our culture so many bangers: Point Break. My Own Private Idaho. The Matrix —ever heard of it?!?! And the piece de resistance: the John Wick movies, a series of escalating action-melodramas, each more violent and elaborate than the last. I love that John Wick can get hit by more than a dozen moving vehicles and still manage to climb stairs at the Sacre Coeur. Wanna know what I do not love? A fat suit. Which is pretty much the last thing I expected to see in a nearly three-hour epic about a hot, sad assassin fighting a bunch of other hot assassins across multiple continents.

It's not a surprise.

John Wick 4 goes heavy on the stunt sequences, but no one goes quite as 'heavy' as Scott Adkins. The experienced martial artist plays Killa in the film, with the help of a fat suit to give the character an impressive stature, and the role sees him step into the spotlight both as a stunt performer and an actor. However, one person who noticed Adkins even from the background was Wick star Keanu Reeves, who was asked in a previous interview what it was like to work with two martial arts legends, Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada. Quick as a flash, Reeves replied "Three legends, Scott Adkins. Keanu is a great guy, he's such a nice gentleman. And so for him to do that, that's him. That's who he is.

A rotund man to say the least, Killa operates out of an industrial nightclub in a smoke-filled backroom with a card table and plenty of henchmen. But Donnie looks as good in this movie as he does in his movies because of Chad. Club, Birth. Not only does Adkins adopt an incredibly different accent and The Whale -like suit, but he takes on Wick in one of the film's strangest, most gleeful fight scenes. It is pure theatre; a Grand Guignol opera drenched in neon. He says it didn't feel too restrictive, thanks to a complex system of harnesses and an internal cooling system he could plug into between shots, but sequences set in a nightclub's waterfall were initially bliss but quickly became oppressive as the suit soaked up the water. Adkins on the Prosthetic Process of John Wick 4. It worked for about half the people in my audience. When we meet him in John Wick 4 , however, Adkins is engulfed in prosthetics and a fat suit. Because I need that. I assume the other half either clocked it as an outdated, lazy comedic trope or, like me, they were silently trying to figure out why the guy in the fat suit looked so damn familiar. They allow actors to treat fatness as a costume without being burdened by the experience of actually living in a body that is openly ridiculed, stigmatized, and marginalized. Was it the scene in which Charlie furiously masturbates himself into a cardiac event, or the one where he frantically makes a jelly sandwich with pizza slices for bread? During the middle stretch of the film, John Wick has to—get this—kill a guy so that the Russian crime family will adopt him and he can formally request a duel with Marquis de Gramont, the aforementioned overlord.

It was fun. John Wick 4 proves numerous times in the first half-hour alone that there are people in larger bodies who are perfectly capable of performing physically demanding fight choreography and stunts. I love that John Wick can get hit by more than a dozen moving vehicles and still manage to climb stairs at the Sacre Coeur. Fans were excited to see a number of names that ring all the bells as action icons, including Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Marko Zaror. Well, I'm not going to do it anymore. But it's worth it to help bring this character to the screen, which I really enjoyed playing, and I'm very proud of what we did. But I appreciated the opportunity to create this character from the ground up and disappear [into it]. Big, hard, powerful blows. Especially since somebody like Chad has given me the opportunity to show what I can do as an actor. Quick as a flash, Reeves replied "Three legends, Scott Adkins. He doesn't have that about him because you could say that, you could say that about him as a director, 'oh, he's just some stunt guy'. And so for him to do that, that's him.
