Morningside has provided some of the best Queensland-bred Australian rules footballers of the last 50 years, including triple-premiership winning Brisbane Lions captain Michael Voss and his teammate fullback Mal Michael , Voss's brother Brett Voss who played at Brisbane and St Kilda. There are two conferences with Morningside playing in the Northern Conference alongside fellow rivals Mt Gravat and Southport, among others.

For close to 70 years, the Panthers, have developed great Queensland teams winning 12 First Division Premierships 9 Male 2 Female plus numerous Youth and Junior awards. Morningside is one of the biggest community sporting clubs in Australia. Morningside prides itself on junior development with many of our youth players progressing into senior football with our club with a significant proportion of our current players have been Morningside Juniors. Over 40 Morningside players have been drafted to AFL teams across the country. The Men's Thirds competition is predominately Brisbane based clubs such as single team clubs and those with two or more teams in the higher competitions. Games are typically played on a Friday evening and the occasional Saturday afternoon. Players can be any age and skill level within this competition s. Senior Women's football first arrived at Morningside in as the Morningside Wildcats, the team entered the competition and was very successful straight out the gate, winning the premiership in their debut season.

Morningside has been a member of Brisbane's elite football competition for over half a century but it took some time for the club to find its feet in the big time. Formed in , the club did not qualify to participate in a finals series for seventeen years, but it was home nevertheless to a number of high quality players. Noel McGuinness, an automatic interstate team selection who won Grogan Medals in and and fell short by a single vote in , was arguably the pick of these, but Brian Grienke, Keith Farnsworth, Henry Maguire and Terry Devery were other players of considerable quality. Major round involvement finally arrived in but the Panthers bowed out in the preliminary final, as they did again the following year. In , however, the club at last came of age, annihilating Mayne in the grand final at the Gabba by 73 points. An era of supremacy seemingly beckoned but it was not to be. In fact, the Panthers failed even to contest the finals again for another five seasons. The s was a barren decade at Morningside, at least in terms of premiership success. During the s the club did at least begin to contest the finals on a regular basis, but runners-up finishes in , and were the closest it came to securing that elusive flag.
