Gerd Waloszek. Places Calendars Art. After a first test of different multi-frame recording methods had not shown any advantages for these methods see page Test Photos of the Moon with RX10 M4 - JulyI wanted to test the MFNR method once again, because I had multi frame nr used it optimally in the first test.

I have been doing a little reading up and taking an interest in capturing star photos, not pro deep sky stuff, but landscape included or decent moon photos. There is a lot of info out there on stacking referring to moon shot to gain clarity and detail. Since there is an option to shoot MFNR at iso but the camera will align the image. On my moon shots, I havent found much if any advantage of shooting RAW as a properly exposed jpg dosent seem to need more depth than I can stretch out of a jpg. Maybe it would make a difference if I was shooting at greater than cropped magnification. Since there seems to be some here that have a higher understanding of what is going on in camera I thought I would ask here. Publish Preview. MFNR is only useful if you're without a tripod. If you're going to shoot the moon you're best to use a tripod.

Oh well. Here is my general workflow. It is an edited jpg as I couldnt do any better with the RAW.

There's also a separate Multi-frame Noise Reduction option which combines several frames to average out noise. See for yourself how the four noise reduction settings work under daylight-balanced lighting. Click on any of the crops below to see the corresponding full-sized image. Sony says noise reduction is not applied to RAW files. Clearly, the Off setting is not really off, as is often the case. It's also interesting that the Off setting smears our red leaf cloth much more than the Low and Normal settings, though chroma and luminance noise is higher.

Besides the advanced customizable autofocus functions find the guide here , The Sony A77 II has some more hidden features and functions that you might want to familiarize yourself with. This modes uses a fixed fast aperture camera does not change the aperture during shooting and allows you to shoot images continuously at high speed. This way, you can switch from wide mode to the center your subject and follow technique during shooting. A very powerful feature. Make sure you set the mode dial front lower left dial to C Cont. Also there are times when I have both clipped highlights and shadows in the one shot, it's a lot easier to fix this in RAW. M ulti-frame noise reduction helps to reduce picture noise by building up exposure and allow larger ISO numbers to be selected than the normal maximum ISO sensitivity. I was not able to find any advantages of the MFNR photos noise reduction set to "normal" compared with the "normal" photos in this not optimal test series, rather the opposite. With a raw file I can do selective white balance adjustments which are less damaging than doing the same on a jpeg. Anyway really Only tried MFNR once, handheld, to shoot under my desk in darkish conditions. I think you may have to crop the picture So, go raw if you want quality and dont be under the wrong impression that raw lets you correct your mistake-it infact let's you correct the canned software's mistakes!! BTW took a peek at your stream. Once you're pushing it up to ISO3,, 6,, even 12, - especially in low light with plenty of underexposed shadows, the noise becomes ever more intrusive. I will attempt to defend myself one more time though I really feel it's a waste of time because you've already made up your mind about me

Sensitivity to light is expressed by the ISO number recommended exposure index. The larger the number, the higher the sensitivity. JavaScript is disabled.

I was not able to find any advantages of the MFNR photos noise reduction set to "normal" compared with the "normal" photos in this not optimal test series, rather the opposite. Continue to argue and bicker if you want but I consider the matter case closed. I understand about "seeing" conditions which as I understand is the reason for stacking in order to help with those variations caused by shooting thu a thick atmosphere. RAW doesn't guarantee any better images, just gives you more leeway to adjust if you mess up. Some have made it out to be in essence a useless feature. We're just back from nights on the HAL Zuiderdam's Viking Passage, and I decided to try out the MFNR feature on my a one night from our balcony when the full moon was playing peekaboo behind the ship. Thank you Dave, Flip, and Justin! Back on topic I'm happy with the results I end up with. I only have the jpeg as a base image, something for me to aim to produce a better image than, plus when my wife uses the camera she just want's the jpeg.
