Opaline is a female Alicorn pony and the main antagonist of the My Little Pony: Make Your Mark series, first appearing in the hour-long Chapter 1 special. She is a self-proclaimed "Alicorn queen" who seeks to take all of Equestria 's magic and rule over all ponykind, using her servant Misty as a spy. She is called Opaline Arcana in merchandise and Missing the Mark. Unlike most unicorns and Alicorns, Opaline's horn is long, curved, and sharp at the tip, similar to King Sombra 's and Mistmane 's. Opaline first appears in the hour-long special My Little Pony: Make Your Mark , appearing very briefly near the end beside her unicorn servant Misty. In the Make Your Mark Chapter 2 episode Izzy Does It , Opaline tasks Misty with spying on the Mane 5 to observe their newly acquired magic so that she can eventually take it from them, and she schemes to find a way to see inside the Crystal Brighthouse.

Opaline's treatment of Misty was emotionally abusive. Though she allowed Misty residency in her Castle and gives her a purpose, Opaline also treats Misty cruelly and frequently belittles her ward, such as saying that she was nothing without Opaline, so as to keep Misty subservient, along with the promise to bestow Misty a Cutie Mark once she accomplishes her goal of conquering Equestria, but only seems to be using her to fulfill her nefarious schemes. Opaline was also manipulative of others; for instance, she used her magic to appear as Sunny's Inner Mind from her Magical Mirror to encourage her to embrace her alicorn form and realize all the power and greatness that can come of it. She also appeared to have a short temper for failure as she scoffs at the failed plans she had Misty perform to try to accumulate Prisbeam Magic. She was shown to be prone to yelling and becomes angry very easily.

I really like how the G5 writers seem to be taking inspiration from the Journal of the Two Sisters and expanding on it. Opaline is portrayed as malicious, scheming, deceitful, and self-centered. As for her cutie mark , it consists of a violet-magenta horn having an inscribed transparent rhombus, and accompanying it are two, cyan-blue flames on the side that resemble wings. She thought little of harming others even in the current day and has ordered Misty to commit a number of potentially violent crimes including unlawful imprisonment, breaking and entering, and kidnapping.
