Last Friday we qlikview aggr the following Qlik Data Architect certification practice question about aggregations in Qlik Sense with the Aggr function:. We have a straight table with an order overview, in which we can see the PartnerIDhow many orders they have placed, the lowest order value and the highest order value. Going trough the possible answers we can see that while answer A will work for the first four partners, it will quickly run into troubles calculating the average if there are more then two orders. And this is where the Aggr function qlikview aggr into play, qlikview aggr.

Aggr returns an array of values for the expression calculated over the stated dimension or dimensions. For example, the maximum value of sales, per customer, per region. The Aggr function is used for nested aggregations, in which its first parameter the inner aggregation is calculated once per dimensional value. The dimensions are specified in the second parameter and subsequent parameters. In addition, the Aggr function should be enclosed in an outer aggregation function, using the array of results from the Aggr function as input to the aggregation in which it is nested.

Return data type: dual. An expression consisting of an aggregation function. By default, the aggregation function will aggregate over the set of possible records defined by the selection. StructuredParameter consists of a dimension and optionally, sorting criteria in the format: Dimension Sort-type, Ordering. The dimension is a single field and cannot be an expression. The dimension is used to determine the array of values the Aggr expression is calculated for. If sorting criteria are included, the array of values created by the Aggr function, calculated for the dimension, is sorted. This is important when the sort order affects the result of the expression the Aggr function is enclosed in.

This is the normal way aggregations are made — each distinct combination of dimension values will render one line in the chart.

I have been looking at the documentation related to the aggr function recently and tried to use it on qs. But I find it difficult to understand it and I have a few questions about it. Does the dimension of this virtual table aggr need to be consistent with the dimension of the chart? My understanding is that the granularity of the dimensions in aggr needs to be smaller than that of the chart. Because the outside aggregation function needs to aggregate the virtual table twice.

The Aggr functions is one of the most advanced functions in the QIX engine, and it is not always easy to use. It does not get easier when you put set analysis expressions in it. In one of my previous posts Pitfalls of the Aggr function I recommended having the set analysis expression in both the inner and the outer aggregation function when using set analysis in the Aggr function. This is a good rule of thumb, because in most cases doing so will generate the result that you want. In more complex calculations you often need to use the condition in one place only — sometimes in the inner aggregation, sometimes in the outer. It depends on how the condition is formulated. Then it is important to understand the difference between the two positions.

Summary: Selections can be made in Calculated Dimensions, although the result may not always be what is expected or desired. The Aggr function can be used to control what field s get selected. The technique discussed in this post applies to both QlikView and Qlik Sense. The screenshots shown are from QlikView. Some of the visuals are a bit different in Qlik Sense, but the idea and expressions demonstrated are the same. A downloadable example to accompany this post is available here. A listbox constructed this way is useful for providing additional context or an additional search. The user is probably expecting a selection in Customer only. To limit the selection to Customer, add an Aggr function to the expression:. Only the Customer field is listed in the Aggr dimension, so selections will be made only in Customer.

Hi all, I have been looking at the documentation related to the aggr function recently and tried to use it on qs. You must have Totals selected under Presentation in the properties panel. In its basic form, the argument StructuredParameter in the Aggr function syntax is a single dimension. It's easier to maintain as well. StructuredParameter : StructuredParameter consists of a dimension and optionally, sorting criteria in the format: Dimension Sort-type, Ordering. For more information about using inline loads, see Inline loads. Without sorting criteria the result of the expression max aggr sum Customers -above Sum Customers , MonthYear depends on how the dimension MonthYear is sorted. The nodistinct qualifier means that the array contains one element for each row in the source data: each is the maximum UnitPrice for each Customer and Product. Aggregation An aggregation is a calculation using multiple records in the source tables. Charts are objects where calculations, aggregations, and groupings can be made.

Aggr returns an array of values for the expression calculated over the stated dimension or dimensions.

If the expression argument is preceded by the nodistinct qualifier, each combination of dimension values may generate more than one return value, depending on underlying data structure. An expression consisting of an aggregation function. Effectively, we have built a temporary list of values without having to create an explicit table or column containing those values. For example, the slices in a pie chart or the bars of a bar chart represent individual values in a dimension. A chart consists of dimensions and measures, where the measures are calculated once per dimensional value. FieldName, Sort-type, Ordering. The technical storage or access is necessary for the legitimate purpose of storing preferences that are not requested by the subscriber or user. This is the normal way aggregations are made — each distinct combination of dimension values will render one line in the chart. Each dimension in an Aggr function must be a single field, and cannot be an expression calculated dimension. Charts are objects where calculations, aggregations, and groupings can be made. This is the normal way aggregations are made — each distinct combination of dimension values will render one line in the chart.

  1. I think, that you commit an error. Let's discuss it. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.

  2. I can look for the reference to a site on which there is a lot of information on this question.
