The blue-and-red neon that glowed atop the now-closed Route 9 Diner in Hadley will soon light up again. The chrome-and-neon building last housed The Route 9 Diner, which closed last year after Attorney General Maura Healy filed a discrimination complaint after allegations of sexual harassment came to light. Upon the diner's closure, the building's owner, Robby Kullman, said he was looking for "someone with experience who respects people and wants to be part of the community" to occupy the spot. The new eatery, located minutes away from The University of Massachusetts Amherst, will focus on creating locally sourced, entirely homemade comfort food over an endless menu of pre-made choices, said Executive Chef Alice Lee. A former UMass student, Lee chased her personal passion for fine dining to France and New York City, before becoming the new diner's executive chef. Inside the diner, the ambiance is still coming together. The chrome and neon is the same as it was in the past, but new light fixtures, black-and-white photos on the walls, contemporary booths and chairs and a red-and-black color scheme differentiate the restaurant from the spot's previous occupant. The new diner is not yet open to the public, but Lee said the restaurant hopes to open the doors at the end of November. HUGE portions. Every time i see it, it's busy. I actually dream about it. The staff was okay, but considering its 24 hours, i can't really complain, considering their food is so good. The restaurant is comfortable once you're sitting down. Clean and friendly. The eggs and home fries were good. There was absolutely no excuse for the poor quality of the coffee, an inferior brand that was way too strong and muddy.
