Soul Cairn exists within a realm of Oblivion, where the undead and trapped Souls reside. The realm is lorded by mystical beings called Ideal Masters. No one who has ever come into contact with Ideal Masters in Soul Cairn has been able to return to Tamriel to tell the tale. This daedric realm cannot be reached by normal means. Once the connection to this plane is established, the other requirement for entry is to be a trapped soul or a Vampire Lord.
