Elite Dangerous has been the premiere space sim since it hit Beta in Since then, I have invested a lot into VR simming including buying premium joysticks, VR headsets, desk mounts, steering wheels, and PC hardware to run all of this. Dual joysticks are still more fun and immersive though which is why I am starting this list with just that! The X56 has been built specifically with space sims in mind and has added functionalities which reflect this fact. The X56 has extra thumbsticks compared to the older X52 which is also good which gives you the extra axes needed for space sims.

I was wondering what would be the best joystick to use for this game. I was wondering which joystick in general would be recommended for beginners and why? The TM is fantastic for a beginner, and works great with ED out of the box; I would say it's pretty much made for it. Easy enough to setup. Lots of buttons and hats, great feedback on the joystick, excellent ergonomics on both the joy and throttle. The value, at least at the price I got it, is unbeatable. My only complaints are that the throttle isn't as butter-smooth as the joystick, and both pieces are super lightweight so it's easy to shift them accidentally. TM also has the advantage of swapping the thumb rest to the opposite side for left handed players or if you want to try dual joysticks. Logitech extreme 3D pro is also good as it is cheap, sturdy and has many buttons. Go go gadget balls! If you want to commit but want to start soft, the Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS is a very good starting point, especially if you have medium or small hands.
EDIT: One important thing for the Tm stick: You cannot really rest the weight of your hand on the stick, pressing the stick into its housing will make your controls ingame drift.

When embarking on your journey through the vast expanse of space in Elite Dangerous, having the right joystick can make all the difference in your piloting experience. With a multitude of options available, selecting the ideal joystick tailored to your preferences can significantly elevate your gameplay. Consider whether you prefer a more immersive experience with a joystick that boasts a wide array of buttons and switches, or if a simpler, more streamlined design aligns with your piloting style. Additionally, think about whether you prioritize precision and accuracy or seek a more ergonomic and comfortable grip for extended gaming sessions. Understanding these preferences will serve as a guiding compass in your quest for the perfect joystick. For novice pilots or those seeking a budget-friendly option, entry-level joysticks offer a great starting point. These joysticks typically feature essential functionalities and are straightforward to set up, making them ideal for beginners. On the other hand, high-end joysticks cater to experienced pilots who demand advanced features, exceptional build quality, and a higher degree of customization.

I come and go on old franchises and old ideas being resurrected by rich old men for rather less rich and old men and women. Sometimes it seems like a roadblock to fresh invention, other times it seems like returning to roads that games were forcibly and unfairly turned away from as forces of marketing and demographic-chasing decided they weren't suitably commercially viable. For example: space sims didn't all but die out because the possibilities were exhausted. Though there have always been survivors, they all but died out because they required huge budgets to pull off well, but could not command the sort of easily advertised-at mainstream audience required to earn their keep. What remained turned inwards, servicing the very particular demands of a passionate few, and making themselves all the more inaccessible to those who were interested but not quite so fervent about it. The comeback, thanks to the removal of almost all middlemen and the ability to engage directly with an audience large enough but spread far and wide, is something I find incredibly exciting.

I don't care it's accurate, if it's Newtonian or arcade pyhsics, I just care about how it feels. Which joystick to get for Elite? An impossible engine shudders into life. It's one of the best feelings on Earth. The stick seems also to need larger hands and i wasnt too happy about the grip, but again, thats due to my palm size. But if I was in the market for a hotas today, I'd jump all over the X I added a set of VKB pedals and have been happy for years. With that said, the configuration for the controller is confusing as heck, and does feel clunky. I find a HOTAS better suited for daily use since it feels easier on the arms compared to dual joysticks. I needed this. X52 is more convenient. There are 4 springs to chose for. That means you can just buy an extra stick and use both! The Warthog has a metal body with buttons that feel so so good when you press them. Manage cookie settings.
The best joysticks for PC are a great way to get more immersion out of your flight sim games if you can't be bothered with a full Yoke, pedals, and switch panels. In fairness, those sorts of controllers can cost an arm and a leg, be a nightmare to set up, and completely dominate your gaming space once installed.
Top Bottom. I flip open a small hatch and hit the seductively red button beneath, which causes the ship's weapons to deploy with a wonderfully mechanical sound. Then I was desperate to get gud as a goid killer and went and blew a packet on a Lexip P94 gaming mouse. But I can't really imagine a joystick or flight stick would be much better since I'm completely unfamiliar with them, and it'd be hard to train my old decrepit hands to use it Then, around , it stopped, or at least seemed to. And I recommend using a program called Voice Attack as well. About the Author Gary Flanker Twitter Gary has been "hard landing" into runways and driving his Mitsubishi Evo off of cliffs since the early s. That long, long, long list of controls, which practically has Yaw, Pitch or Roll in every available section Not ship feely but I really like all the buttons and switch placements. You immediately have to go for a silicone spray for lubricating the throttle dont even order it without because it is on a sliding pad. On my main PC I have. I was wondering what would be the best joystick to use for this game. El Guido.
