I can't decide if this movie is brilliant, cheezy, profound, juvenile, disgusting or the biggest turn-on since "I Spit On Your Grave". I'm not sure if you'll love or hate this flick, but if you will definitely NOT forget it. As you can guess from the movie posters, the story is about an artificially-engineered humanoid who's pretty hot. Let your imagination take it from there. What makes this story so memorable is that the writers aren't afraid to take it wherever it needs to go. And then some. Like if you thought "Species" was perverse, it looks like "The Flying Nun" compared to this. Just to throw some words out there: incest, bestiality, rape, science, incest. And yes, I know I said it twice. I found myself, in the depths of my twisted mind, thinking "woah, wouldn't it be crazy if such and such happens
It ALMOST give us confidence that Hollywood may be open to new ideas and may actually take chances than stick to the usual remake, rehash, splice imdb, sequel crap. Like if you thought "Species" was perverse, it looks like "The Flying Nun" compared to this. The splice imdb is nothing to write home about either.

Well-timed to open soon after genome pioneer Craig Venter's announcement of a self-replicating cell, here's a halfway serious science-fiction movie about two researchers who slip some human DNA into a cloning experiment, and end up with a unexpected outcome or a child or a monster, take your pick. The script blends human psychology with scientific speculation and has genuine interest until it goes on autopilot with one of the chase scenes Hollywood now permits few films to end without. In the laboratory of a genetic science corporation, we meet Clive and Elsa Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley , partners at work and in romance, who are trying to create a hybrid animal gene that would, I dunno, maybe provide protein while sidestepping the nuisance of having it be an animal first. Against all odds, their experiment works. Elsa rebels and slips some human DNA into their lab work. What results is a new form of life, part animal, part human, looking at first like a rounded SpongeBob and then later like a cute kid on Pandora, but shorter and not blue. This creature grows at an astonishing rate, gets smart in a hurry and is soon spelling out words on a Scrabble board without apparently having paused at the intermediate steps of learning to read and write. Clive thinks they should terminate it.

I applaud him for taking the risk. Fresh from their success in creating a new hybrid organism from the splicing of the DNA of various animals, biochemists Clive Nicoli Adrien Brody and Elsa Kast Sarah Polley are eager to continue their groundbreaking experiments. She thinks they have more pressing concerns — namely, creating a new hybrid by introducing human DNA into the mix — financial, ethical and legal prohibitions notwithstanding.

Three fourths of these reviews hate the movie and whine about the idiot decisions of the scientists. So they really don't see that come on. Brody and Polley are excellent as always. Quotes Elsa Kast : If you could understand crazy, it wouldn't be crazy. Digital Pictures Tony Cybulski Clive is against all this but follows her wishes afraid of how their careers will be ruined if somebody find out. I can't decide if this movie is brilliant, cheezy, profound, juvenile, disgusting or the biggest turn-on since "I Spit On Your Grave". It has the old school charm, and it uses that to its advantage to create a rather unique film for its time. The story totally collapsed here and it would have served the movie so much better had they decided to do something else. Effects group Jeff Skochko
Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named "Dren", the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly. Joan Chorot David Hewlett The film asks a lot of questions but I think part of the problem is that a few of the characters just do too many dumb things. Her quick tonal changes reflect both the character's struggle for identity, and the immediacy and honesty of the portrayal. The splice with that genre just doesn't hold. The two actors really do come off like a real couple, which certainly helped during the various twists at the end. Top credits Director Vincenzo Natali. Both of these would have fit into a Hollywood movie but SPLICE spent its entire running time trying to be smart yet tosses that away in the closing moments when it really wasn't needed. Digital Pictures. Still, that minor gripe is forgivable because "Splice" has two hugely important and rare qualities for modern horror—Original thought and fearless storytelling. Brody had no trouble bringing the human drama to life and he was good enough to make us believe everything we were seeing. Well ,the reason why I am not giving it an 8 or a 9 is mainly because of the casting.. Is Elsa imposing her will upon Dren's sex?
