It gets reduced to dpi when it gets colored, and reduced further 72 dpi when it gets reduced to pixels wide for my website. Those dimensions were all based on newspaper standards โ which may or may not be important to you. The newspaper standards were great in that I think artists were really able to fine-tune an attractive aspect ratio over the last hundred years. When you see strips that derivate from that, they tend to look very awkward. I think those panels are way too tall. The result is a visual experience that feels stretched and strained. Besides, look at how difficult it becomes to compose a scene in which there are more than two characters. Even when the artist tries to introduce some depth Panel Three , the proportions of the panel force a very flat composition.
Although it is best to plan everything with printing in mind, because then you have the option open to you without having to do very much extra work.
Hello, me again c: So this is one for all the creators out there: What resolution do you upload your comics in? Since I exclusively do webcomics, I personally draw on a x canvas and resize to x for upload to tapas for better readability on desktop. But what about you? How do you like to size your pages? I do my pages with print in mind. So I stick to a dpi on a 14x11 page size with margins. I resize down to the maximum tapas will allow later on.

I feel like the only exception is if you're doing a comic with animated gifs, something like Saint for Rent , or to a lesser extent, Colorless , but even then you would want to work at a higher resolution than what you export at. Since displays do not operate on inches and dpi its better to stick with pixels: Dpi is necessary only if you're gonna publish your comics, and even then its very easy to change it to fit your needs, as long as your original image is big enough.

So for Bloodroot and Ghost Play I've made an A5 template suitable for printing through Lulu with bleed and assumingly most other companies as well. After spending weeks or even months on your comic, ensure the reader can enjoy the artwork fully by using quality images. I mean your mileage will vary depending on how beefy your computer is.
