For a historical junkie you have come to the right place. It also has a lot of amazing hiking trails with amazing views. Whichever one you choose you won't be disappointed.

The restaurant was extremely clean. Alyssa was our waitress and we couldn't have asked for better service. I had the best steak I've ever had. Their Mac and Cheese was delicious. The Cole Slaw was very good. I would really recommend this restaurant. June Great pulled pork sandwich, smoked right in front of the restaurant.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed here for 3 nights whilst doing some sightseeing around Dorset. The property itself was beautiful and the surrounding village had some stunning walking trails through local farmlands. It's easy to get to the tourist hotspots by car and because The food was great - all fresh and locally sourced where possible and there was plenty to choose from to accommodate most tastes. Staff were friendly and always eager to help - very attentive. The room was functional, clean and had a degree of charm with its old wooden beams. If you're after luxury, then probably skip this but it was perfectly acceptable for what we needed. Despite the obvious effects Covid is having on the industry at large, we felt the overall experience was fantastic value for money and would highly recommend the Anvil Inn to anyone that is looking for a Dorset getaway!

I was working in the town pre-second lockdown. This was such a lovely place to have my breakfast. The staff were so friendly and gave me advice on things to do in the area. They made us all feel very welcome. The fried breakfast was Of the cuff visit, needed breakfast, decided to divert to Bishop Waltham to see what we could find. Well, while looking for parking we spotted The Anvil, wow, what a find. Delicious full monty breakfast.
