Friends is a board-governed, volunteer-staffed, non-profit community organization that administers and manages four Health System Gift Shops. The University of Medicine and Health Sciences takes pride in being one of the top-tier Caribbean medical schools with very high accreditation standards. Our students are qualified to sit for US and Canadian medical licensing exams, and gain residency and licensure throughout both countries. They can obtain residencies throughout Canada and in Puerto Rico. This prep service is a resource included in the tuition and fees for our students. All United States citizens and permanent residents are required to submit their MCAT scores as part of their application. The Puerto Rico Health Department Administrative Order , signed back in March, mandated that medical and nursing students can work in vaccination campaigns under the supervision of health care professionals. UMHS professor Dr. Prakash Mungli said all UMHS students were trained before starting vaccinations and were under constant supervision from professionals. Mungli said. While they vaccinated people, they were under constant supervision by certified nurses and family physicians. Apart from vaccination, our students also helped with paperwork and other voluntary work that was necessary during this vaccination program.
