Several months ago, Redditor rqaa graciously compiled maps of each area inside the Underground, based on data mined from the game. Below are the maps they provided. These maps include dev annotations and reveal some funny physics-breaking room-hopping that happens behind the scenes. Hence wise, we took it upon ourselves to stitch together a full map. The results are very… long!

This ultra-detailed, ultimate Undertale guide is divided up into three main sections due to the ability to complete a Pacifist Walkthrough where you can't kill a single enemy -- we give the right dialog options to get out of battle and the Genocide Walkthrough you have to kill every enemy, we tell you the locations of all hidden enemies and provide deep boss strategy. Before the game starts a brief series of cut scenes will explain the history of the world you are about to enter. These scenes tell of a war between humans and monsters where monsters were forced to live in the Underground located beneath the Earth's surface. It will finish with images of a child falling into the deep hole which leads to the aforementioned world. This child happens to be you, so give yourself a name and head out of the room to the right to begin your adventure. Undertale can be played multiple ways to acquire different sections. Though the main walk through may be much the same for each ending, we have created guides to help you achieve them all. This play-through is achieved by playing the game without worrying if or how many characters you kill.

The Underground is the primary setting of Undertale. It is a large region within Mount Ebott that is separated from the Surface of the Earth. It houses the kingdom of Monsters , who are ruled by King Asgore , and formerly by his ex-wife, Toriel. The Underground has varying climates, and features six different areas: the Ruins , the frigid and wintery Snowdin , the marshy and cavernous Waterfall , the blistery and barren Hotland , the technologically advanced CORE and the Capital. The Underground's exit is blocked by the Barrier , which was placed by the Humans long ago. Anything and anyone can enter the Underground by descending into Mount Ebott. After the Humans defeated the Monsters in The War , the losing faction was banished into the Underground. A Barrier was erected to prevent the insiders from leaving, though outsiders could still freely enter. Wary of humans, monsters retreated into the Ruins and adapted Home as their first capital, [1] living normal lives in the Underground from then on.

Since each area outside of HOME the Ruins suffers intense climates, the monsters must have been focused on moving forward rather than expanding outward though some monsters stayed in each area.
