Learning how to use Warcraft Logs is the best way to improve your performance and become a better player— but getting into combat logging, analyzing your own gameplay, and using the data to improve can be daunting. This guide will go through many of Warcraft Logs' features and data views, in addition to how interpret it all, to help you process all the information that is available. Why do raiding guilds use this as a metric?! My dps was respectable, but parsing is…meaningless to me. It shows that you are at least competent enough to be a pumper. For example while you did get a 95th percentile on Hungering for Enhancement Shamans overall, when weighed up against other shamans in a similar ilvl bracket, you only had a 60th percentile parse. If you looked deeper, you could contrast those logs to Shamans who outperformed you and figure out how they beat you, was their cooldown usage better? Was the group comp more ideal? And usually guilds worth their salt will have a couple people good enough at reading logs to look deeper into them to get a better understanding of how you play. Though a bunch of guilds know that logs are important, but not why, so all they care about is parses. Also at this point, normals are pretty cheesy. You typically explode the bosses really quickly so getting good parses is easy as hell. Heroic and to a far greater degree, Mythic parses are way more competitive. In part, sure. My real point in posing the question is, when did just being able to show DPS, or item level, become insufficient?
