Praia da Figueira is quite secluded but not difficult to reach. It can only be reached via a narrow footpath, as cars must be parked about meters half a mile away. As your gaze sweeps over the small, unspoiled bay it makes your heart soar. The gentle arc of almost white sand blends into the brilliantly clear bright blue of the Atlantic, which in turn gradually gives way to the dark blue of the deep sea, only to be reunited with the light on the distant horizon. On the coast not far from Coimbra, Figueira da Foz is a resort city with a casino, bars restaurants and an enormous urban beach.
