Our hike began in a misty pasture flanked by knotty oaks. Within minutes, however, we were in a forest dominated by coastal redwoods-giants craning out of the darkness toward the sky. To the east, layers of rockier ridges backed by Mount St. No buildings, no power lines, not even a ribbon of road, no engine sound unless a plane passes overhead. At Willow Creek, hikers seldom encounter another human and usually find their vehicle the only one parked inside the locked gate at Freezeout Flat. Public access here at Willow Creek is an experiment whose success may well make it a model for future projects. People have been walking through and watching over Willow Creek, without permits, for at least 13, years.

Equestrian riders can access the Bodega Dunes trail system through the back side of Bodega Dunes campground via Bay Flat road. The Supervising Ranger may approve the stay of a juvenile that presents written consent from their parent or guardian that states the dates of the authorized stay and the park name.

This is a popular trail for hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. This is a very popular area for backpacking, hiking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail. Beautiful, muddy, satisfying between storms hike. Pretty muddy at the moment. Definitely use poles and shoes with good traction. There's a huge creek next to Pomo Canyon Camp which is only marked on USGS maps for some reason so it's not needed to carry lots of water. Great backpacking trip.

These sites are not on the reservation system and are first-come, first-served only. Great trail! In the spring the wildflower displays are spectacular. We offer token operated hot showers, flush toilets, and a potable water filling station. Pay fees with cash or check. Picnic tables and restroom facilities are also available. Though coho have yet to return, Willow Creek is home to other threatened species, including the Sonoma tree vole and its predator the spotted owl.
